How to Add Clickable Link to MP4 Video (For eCommerce Brands)

How to Add Clickable Link to MP4 Video (For eCommerce Brands)

Clickable links in videos can help you engage viewers, show how your product works, and create an interactive experience. These links can be a call to action, hotspot, overlay, and so on.

A video platform like YouTube lets you add clickable links to videos. However, this comes with limitations. For instance, you can’t create a clickable quiz, include shoppable product links, or track video sales data. Videowise fixes these challenges.

Below, we’ll share how to add clickable links to your videos on both YouTube and Videowise.

How to add clickable links to YouTube videos

Adding clickable links to your YouTube video can help you convert potential customers. Here are different ways to do this:

1. Add clickable link to your video description

The YouTube video description is a great place for adding links to your products, social media profiles, and website. You can find the description below your YouTube video title.

  • Select Upload Video

  • Upload the video

  • Edit the video description and paste the links you want to add

  • Continue with the next steps. Once you publish the video, YouTube will automatically make your links clickable.

2. Add info cards

An info card is another way to include a clickable video URL in your YouTube video. Here’s how it looks:

When adding cards, keep in mind that:

  • You can display cards at specific times by scrolling through the video timeline to where you want to add the card.

  • The teaser text and custom message of a card can contain 30 characters.

  • Cards turn into a lowercase “i” within five seconds, allowing users to click them when they want.

  • Card links must be associated with your YouTube channel or an approved retailer site.

  • Only members of the YouTube Partner Program can create clickable cards.

  • You can add up to five info cards to a video.

Here’s how to insert a card in your YouTube video:

  • Click your YouTube profile picture at the top right corner and select YouTube Studio.

  • Select Upload Video

  • Upload the video and click Next

  • Add your card in the Video Elements section.

  • Continue with the next steps until you publish the video, and the card will become a clickable link.

3. Add an end screen

YouTube end screens are like info cards. They display in the last 5 to 20 seconds of a YouTube video. With end screens, you can send viewers to your store, a new product, a testimonial video, or a how-to video.

Adding YouTube end screens to videos is like adding cards. Here’s how to do it:

  • Click your YouTube profile picture at the top right corner and select YouTube Studio.

  • Select Upload Video.

  • Upload the video and click Next.

  • Select ADD in the Add an end screen section. You can IMPORT FROM VIDEO.

  • Add any of these end screens: video, playlist, subscribe, channel, link.

If you’ve published videos without end screens, you can still add one. To do this:

  • Open YouTube Studio and click the video where you want to add the end screen.

  • On the right sidebar, scroll to the End screen tab and click it.

  • Add your end screen by following the steps we’ve outlined above. That’s it.

Best practices for adding end screens to YouTube videos

  • Insert your social icons for viewers to follow your social media channels.

  • Add a variety of links like product, testimonial, and how-to video.

  • Add the subscriber element for viewers to follow your channel.

  • Make your videos over 25 seconds to add an end screen.

  • Include only related videos on your end screen.

  • Avoid cluttered end screens.

  • Track your end screen data.

How to add clickable links to MP4 videos with Videowise

Videowise lets you add multiple types of interactive links to your videos. You can use a lead capture form, call to action, shoppable videos, links, and quizzes to get your viewer’s attention. Note that you can only have one type of interaction per video.

1. Add a lead capture form

A lead capture form lets you get the contact information of your viewers. Once a viewer clicks on your video, they will see this form in the video player.

To add a lead capture form to your Videowise video:

  • Go to the Interactions tab in your Videowise dashboard and click Lead capture forms.

  • At the top right corner, select NEW LEAD CAPTURE FORMS.

  • Name your lead capture form and click CONTINUE.

  • Customize your lead capture form and click SAVE & EXIT when you finish.

    Add a lead capture form
  • Go to the Library and select the video to add your lead capture form

  • Click NEW INTERACTION. Select Lead capture form and pick from the forms you created.

2. Add a call to action

After watching your videos, viewers may not take action unless you tell them. For this reason, you need to have a call to action (CTA) in your videos. These CTAs can help you tap into the desires of viewers, like saving money through discounts.

To insert a clickable call to action in your Videowise video:

  • Go to the Interactions tab in your Videowise dashboard and click Call to Actions.

  • At the top right corner, select NEW CALL TO ACTION.

  • Name your call to action and click CONTINUE.

  • Design your call to action and click SAVE & EXIT when you finish.

3. Add shoppable product and link

Clickable product links are great when you share how-to videos, testimonial videos, and so on. When you add products and links to your videos, you can choose where they display by sliding them along the video timeline.

Here’s how to add shoppable products and links to your Videowise video:

  • Go to the Interactions tab in your Videowise dashboard and click New interaction.

  • Select Products or links.

  • If you’re adding a shoppable product, you can add up to six and click ADD PRODUCTS. Follow the same process if you’re adding a link.

  • Drag the products or links to where they should display in the video and press SAVE & CLOSE.

4. Add a quiz

Quizzes are a great way to engage customers and direct them to products they can buy. Let’s assume you sell different shoes in your store. You could create a quiz that has four options. Each option will be a different shoe brand. You can incentivize viewers to click their preferred option to receive a discount.

To add a quiz like this to your Videowise video:

  • Go to the Interactions tab in your Videowise dashboard and click Quizzes.

  • At the top right corner, select NEW QUIZ.

  • Name your quiz and click CONTINUE.

  • Design your quiz and click SAVE & EXIT when you finish.

Add a quiz

  • Go to the Library and select the video to add your quiz

  • Click NEW INTERACTION. Select Quiz. Pick from those you created and hit ADD QUIZ.
